Adult Programs
Keeping true to our mission statement the Leighton Art Centre provides the perfect backdrop to unleash creative potential. We offer adult programs throughout the year instructed by professional art educators. Workshops in painting (both oil and watercolour) are very popular as well as fine craft in various media. Our workshops are designed for a variety of skill levels from beginner to advanced. We also host ‘Salon Lectures’ which feature a social evening with wine and cheese, in combination with presentations by prominent art specialists from Alberta.

Drawing with Imagination

Translate what’s in front of you in three-dimension to what you want to say on a two-dimensional surface. That’s drawing. It’s the skeleton for a painting, it’s journaling graphic memories that are way more personal than a photograph, and it’s capturing the spirit of a place for you to remember. Let’s learn some rules (which can be broken) and let the imagination go- so we can draw. All levels.
Go with the Flow - How to Loosen up your Watercolours

The secret to creating relaxed watercolours lies in capitalizing on the fluid behaviour of the watercolour medium. Through demonstrations and exercises, Brent Laycock will help students unlock the exciting nature of this medium that seems to have a mind of its own. Learn to make corrections and paint with direction and confidence. All levels.

Using exciting designs of your own creation, and by cutting, laying out and gluing pieces of pottery, china, beads and other found objects, onto a 9x12 board, you will come away with your very own mosaic masterpiece. This very popular class has not been offered for several years so don’t delay in signing up. Some supplies required.
Mixed Media and Image Transfer
Instructor: Natalie Kurzuk
Sat., April 14th 9:30 am - 4 pm

An exciting day of discovery working with gold leaf, collage, image transfers from photographs, and a whole range of found objects. Students will work with watermedia paints to create colours, designs, textured surfaces and happy accidents. Layout and design, stamping and stenciling, will be covered in this workshop. All levels.

Please be on time. We are hard to find so make sure you plan your route beforehand. You can download a map by going to our "contact/plan your visit" page. Bring your lunch and any special beverages you may want - we are located rurally with no nearby facilities. Dress for weather if you're participating in an outdoor class. Sorry NO refunds.
