This workshop presents an opportunity for parent and child to explore together the fascinating world of encaustic painting (i.e. painting with beeswax). Painting with beeswax - with the addition of heat to make the paint molten - makes it possible to create a variety of effects and surfaces that we don’t achieve with paint. Sharon will guide the exploration using creative exercises. Parents will supervise the safe use of heat guns and hot palettes, along with providing input and encouragement for their budding artist(s). Each child participant will take home at least 2 completed works of art.
This workshop is open to children aged 6 to 12 and teenagers aged 13 to 17. A parent must be present with their child/teenager during the entire the workshop.
All required art supplies are included. Please bring a lunch, snacks and a water bottle for the day. Artist tip: wear clothes that you do not mind getting dirty!
Registration cost: $175 (per child/teenager; a parent must accompany but there’s no cost to do so).
Registration closes on Wednesday October 10th, 2018 at 9 PM.

Sharon Lynn Williams has been happily exploring mixed watermedia for over 35 years and her mantra is “What would happen if…?”. The excitement of working from chaos to order is invigorating and creates a dialogue between the work and the artist. Sharon enjoys working with bold colour, line and texture. Her work is informed by the landscapes that she paints en plein air in oil, her passion for gardening and love of the human figure. Sharon's interpretations of the beauty around her, as well as her vivid imagination make for an eclectic and varied body of work. Visit her online at http://www.sharonlynnwilliams.com/.
