Discover Series: An Introduction to Needle-felt Creatures

Register

Whether you are new to the craft or have some experience and want to learn more about needle-felt techniques, this workshop is designed for you. Needle-felting is a fun, quick-to-learn craft. You can successfully produce charming creatures regardless of your level of experience and with little investment in tools and supplies – but watch out, it is addictive and you will want to keep learning more!

We’ll be discussing:

  • The needles and how they work – how you can use them effectively and efficiently (and most importantly, how not to poke yourself or break the needle)
  • Sculpting techniques such as soft sculpting to create contoured surfaces and hard rolling forms to make your efforts more efficient
  • Embellishing the surface and attaching small objects to add character
  • We’ll start working on a simple mouse design which uses a soft sculpting technique and then add needle and wet felted embellishments. If time allows, we can start on a second creature and experiment with other techniques and embellishments. I’ll bring lots of examples for ideas and am happy to explain techniques to you to experiment with in the class or on your own.

Barbara Leighton believed that every person could be an artist if they found the right medium... perhaps felting is yours. Join us with our fun felted creatures to find out!
