The Leighton Art Centre, Gallery and Museum has become a well-known art venue showcasing a variety of outstanding exhibitions by Alberta Artists. The predominant focus of art, inspired by the landscape, is the legacy the Leighton Art Centre is built upon. The gallery, with 120 running feet of exhibition space, hosts several exhibits throughout the year, both from professional artists as well as emerging artists.
In addition to traditional paintings, we show works of fine craft that are inspired by the landscape, photography, and outdoor installations.
The goal of our exhibition program is to expand the possibilities of art that relate to the landscape. As well, the Leighton Art Centre draws upon the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Traveling Exhibition program to augment it's yearly Exhibition Calendar and to provide excellent educational content for our school program. Where possible, all exhibits are linked to our permanent collection, giving us the opportunity to share these treasures with our visitors. Each exhibition is accompanied by a curatorial statement and educational material to engage the viewer.
Our focus will continue to be works by Alberta artists, although we may introduce works by artists from the rest of Canada and abroad from time to time. With one-half of our membership comprised of artists, we also offer several opportunities for members to show their work. Click here to view upcoming opportunities.
